Livsmedelsystemen behöver förändras i grunden (H1)
Sverige kan vara ett föregångsland
Att ställa om livsmedelssystemen är centralt i omställningen till ett mer hållbart samhälle. Livsmedelsystemen beräknas idag stå för 20–30 procent av de globala växthusgas-utsläppen. En tredjedel av all odlad mat uppskattas bli till matsvinn samtidigt som ojämlik tillgång och ineffektiv hantering tvingar 800 miljoner människor att leva i hunger.
Världen behöver lösa livsmedelsfrågan för att klara att gå i mål med Agenda 2030 och Parisavtalet. Så viktig är den. Som forskare och partners i Mistra Food Futures bidrar vi genom att arbeta intensivt för en kunskapsbaserad omställning av livsmedelssystemen.
Livsmedelsfrågan måste ses i ett systemperspektiv som inkluderar primärproduktion, förädling, distribution, handel och konsumtion. Mycket ska vägas in och vägas mot varandra; hållbara lantbruk, biologisk mångfald, djurvälfärd, lönsamhet, tryggad livsmedelsförsörjning, nutrition, folkhälsa och planethälsa.
Kunskapsluckor och målkonflikter kan skapa meningsskiljaktigheter innan det går att hitta vägar framåt, men vi ser att Sverige kan vara ett föregångsland.
Politiken har nu lyft ett hållbart och konkurrenskraftigt livsmedelssystem högt på agendan. Statliga medel till livsmedelsforskning nästan fyrdubblades i senaste forsknings-propositionen. Finansiärer som Mistra och Formas investerar i forskning för att driva omställningen av livsmedelssystemet nationellt och lokalt, i EU och globalt. Satsningar som ger förutsättningar att skapa förändring i stor skala.
Nationella forskningsprogram, som Mistra Food Futures, kan gå före och bana väg för hållbara lösningar och utveckling om påbörjade samarbeten och resultat plockas upp och växlas upp av beslutsfattare och näringslivet, och omsätts i handlingsplaner, i politiska beslut, styrmedel, och i nya modiga företagsidéer.
Sverige kan vara ett föregångsland och driva en vetenskapligt grundad omställning av livsmedelsystemen om vi tillsammans visar handlingskraft.
